Internet! I has it! After... heck, it's been a few months, I think. Seems like longer. Anyway, once I get over the initial ohmygodmustvieweverypageever, I'll probably post a bit more here. And maybe work on fanfic that hasn't been worked on in... ever >>;

In other news, I'm working on a conlang. Well, another one - the one I started back in high school is getting shelved indefinitely, and I'm making a fresh start. It's... kind of nice, really, not to be constrained by the old language. Don't get me wrong, it's still got a special place in my heart, but I enjoy the freedom. It's also nice that I have a somewhat better grasp on linguistics, although I've still got a fair distance to travel in that regard.

Now to see how long it takes me to come up with a solid list of phonemes....

Oh, and iced tea has officially made way for hot tea. Goodbye summer, please let the door hit you on the way out. *glomps autumn*

comments

We just hit 100,025 words as of ten minutes ago. In terms of midnight-to-midnight days, it took us just under 29, a full day less than we had to use. There are still a couple scenes to add before the story itself is complete, but it's pretty close, and I think first we're going to take a well-deserved break. Also, a happy dance. *dancedancedance*

comments

We're about 1,200 words behind as of midnight, and it looks like tomorrow is going to be another 5,000 word day. As long as we don't fall too much behind because of Thanksgiving and the fact that we won't be able to do anything except by phone Saturday, we should do well. We should finish. It's actually close enough, now that we're barely more than a week out from the finish, that I can actually fathom finishing, and finishing wit as many words as we need. And let me tell you, that is something both extraordinarily satisfying and stomach-turningly anxious at the same time. I'm close to burned out, and I think that we'll both be very, very glad when this whole thing is over, win or no.

comments

But! It is awesome to hit halfway, and I am enjoying a couple of celebratory drinks whilst trying to build up a buffer for the Thanksgiving holiday, because I know we'll get less work done that weekend.
44,800 words, almost exactly, at three in the morning. If we want to be on track, we need 50k by midnight, and I think it's doable, but it'll take a lot of work. I only wish AIM hadn't eaten my ~560-word post, which made me redo the whole thing. Altogether it took about an hour and a half, when the initial post took twenty-five minutes to write. But it's okay. I got something written that at least closely resembled the original post, and we kept going forward. Really, that's all we can do.

comments

12,800 words, which puts us well ahead of where we need to be. Almost an entire day, as a matter of fact, and I'm very pleased about that. In fact, if I actually stop putting off typing up the scene that's sitting in the notebook in front of me, we will be a whole day ahead. Hopefully we'll be able to keep up this pace, and use the buffer as a means to have a nice, relaxing, fluff-filled Sunday.
Today is something of an early morning, at least as far as writing goes; the Doctor has the day off, and I'm going off to vote in a couple hours, so we decided to get as much done as we can in the time before that. Right now we're sitting just shy of 5600 words, which means we've got about a thousand to go before we hit today's quota. At the rate we're going, we should more than smash that, and have a nice comfortable buffer for tomorrow's work. So, I'm going to settle in under a nice warm blanket and enjoy my tea, because I feel like I've earned it :)

comments

Today was a lot of fun. I got out of bed late, around noon, and took a quick walk around the neighbourhood before settling down to finish (start) D&D planning. The rest of the gang showed up around 3:30, and we went out hiking before we started the session. The hike itself was really fun, down the tracks and out along the creek to where it joins up with a larger creek. We found a couple of pawpaw trees with ripe fruit, and picked what we could. It's an odd taste, compared to other fruits, but they're pretty delicious once you get used to them.

After the hike was D&D, which went at least marginally better than last week. I'm starting to get bored with the mini-campaign, though, and really want to get back to the main campaign. Just a few more sessions and this one'll be over....

comments

I've been listening to Óró Sé do Bheatha 'Bhaile on and off for the last hour or so (again), and I've realised that I really want to write a fic with England and Ireland and maybe some others focused around Gráinne Ní Mháille. I've been pretty fascinated with her story ever since I learned about it, and it's been hovering in the back of my mind for a while now. I've never really written fic that's dealt with a serious theme before, so even if I do end up following this plot bunny (and I most likely will; Ireland is a character I've been wanting to write for a while) I'll probably do some shorter serious pieces first to get a feeling for it.

I definitely want to finish Forget Me Not first before I start on that, though, although I may do some of the shorter serious pieces before FMN is done. Just need to figure out what I want to do... maybe something else involving Ireland so I can get a feel for writing her as well?

Yes, I know there technically isn't an Ireland; I've had her in my head!canon for a while, though, and she simply won't go away. So I'm writing her.

comments

So it's five in the morning and I'm still up, working on the second chapter for Forget Me Not, despite knowing full well that I have to be up in five hours to help with yardwork. *sigh*

But, I'm liking this chapter a lot better than the first one, and I like the first one pretty well. No Canada in this chapter, sadly, but he should at least be a major part of the third chapter. I'm still not sure how many chapters I'll have when it's finished, but it'll probably be in the 6+ range. Just depends on how long the plot takes to pan out.

Anyway, that was my little bit of babbling about writing for the day; now back to the actual writing like the good little fanficcer I am.

comments

I realized three things more or less simultaneously last night. First, there aren't really any good U.N. Owen accordion arranges. Second, Russia is ridiculously similar to Flandre in some ways. Third, an accordion arrange of U.N. Owen would be perfect for a creepy Russia fanvid.

So, I got a .midi of U.N. Owen and played around with it in Fruity Loops, wound up with a decent-sounding accordion arrange, and now I'm gonna make a Russia fanvid.
So D&D was... well, I've never had a session get quite as derailed as this one did. There were supposed to be fights. There were none. We finished three hours earlier than planned. There were pot-brownies being fed to Umber Hulks, and the spontaneous creation of Bodhi, a fully-baked Dwarven dealer who was his own personal roving contact high. But, the gang seemed to have fun with it at least. I wish the evening had lasted longer, D&D or no, but the Doctor had to go home early and catch up on sleep before Faire tomorrow. But, we got to be goofy and try on various hats (as well as an errant lampshade) before she left, and I get to see her tomorrow, so that's something to look forward to.

Incidentally, I'll be wearing Steampunk garb to Faire, at least tomorrow, mainly because my normal garb's too hot to wear until it cools down a bit more. So I made a pretty snazzy bowtie out of some spare fabric I had lying around, which puts me another piece closer to a finished outfit. Now all I really need is to find some old welding goggles I can paint, and I'll have everything I need. Well, except a frock coat, but sadly that's beyond both my budget and my limited sewing skills. So goggles'll have to do.

comments

Last night, as a consequence of staying up 'til six to plan for today's D&D session and finding that hot tea was the only caffeinated beverage in the house, I got back into my hot tea habit. I've been drinking the stuff pretty much nonstop since. Since I've been running low on the three or four blends of black tea I usually drink, I decided to delve into the Big Bag o'Tea and actually separate the tins out by type. I had thought that most of the rest of what was in there was green tea (ick), but it turns out there were about five more black teas that I didn't even know about. So now I've got a nice Darjeeling steeping (<3) and I'm actually enjoying the prospect of going through some of this tea in over the next couple of weeks.

comments
